Plann was engaged in early 2020, to provide specialist Project Director/Theatre Consultant support to Waltham Forest Council, during delivery of their Granada Cinema Walthamstow project. Working in partnership with Soho Theatre and with the support of Historic England, the council saved the site from redevelopment and reimagined the iconic cinema building as a new home for live performance. The venue now boasts a 962-seat auditorium, a 180-seat studio and sensitively restored front of house area including extensive café bar facilities. A wrap-around extension added to the rear of the building accommodates the essential back of house facilities not previously needed for cinema operation.
Plann was appointed by Waltham Forest Council to work alongside the in-house Project Director in a multi-faceted role, providing specialist expertise to the Executive and in-house Project Teams. Plann also worked closely with the new operators, Soho Theatre, supporting them through the capital project process and providing a bridge to both the Council and the Main Contractor.
