The Yard Theatre was established in 2011, in a disused warehouse in Hackney Wick, built by 50 volunteers over the course of eight weeks, with a £9,000 Arts Council England grant and recycled building materials.
Originally thought of as a temporary space, The Yard has grown substantially, whilst maintaining an exciting programme of theatre not found elsewhere in London. The Yard also runs an eclectic late-night music programme and runs community events.
The scheme comprises the refurbishment and expansion of The Yard Theatre’s existing premises to encompass the unit on either side in order to create an expanded operation of both the current Yard Theatre and their previous Community Space at Hub67, which is being demolished as part of wider development of Hackney Wick. The project will deliver a larger 220-seat theatre, new community spaces, and an enlarged, enhanced Foyer/Bar space.
It is expected that site construction will commence in June 2025, with the project due to complete in September 2026.
Plann were appointed as Project Managers in late 2019 to oversee the project from concept stage. As well as the usual PM responsibilities, Plann have been assisting with design team procurement, S106 and lease negotiations, GLA funding applications and client budgeting and cash flow.
